Cooling Off

[BD]  Seems like VD is not going to be posting this trip.

View From the Bedroom
This morning we lazed around (seems like we are doing a lot of that), listening to the doves in the tree right outside the "bedroom window".  For what appears at first glance to be an arid wasteland, completely devoid of life, there is a surprising variety of flora and fauna, including the 8 inch long, orange-legged, black-backed centipede the greeted me on the way back from the morning shower.  No pics as I normally do not carry a camera to the showers.  Guess I should since that seems like where the cool critters hang out.   (That didn't come out right.)

View From the Office
Still not being ready to tackle the next leg of the trip, decided to check in with work.  The view from my office is quite stunning.  As has been the case for several days, connection is really problematic.  Switched to "global roaming" mode which means I was probably going out through some cell tower on a mountaintop in Mexico and will get a data roaming bill for $1,000,000,000.

On the road about 10:30, we established a new standard Davidson start time.  The longest stretch yet of 90 miles absent of human habitation excluding Maryhill and Hope, neither of which showed signs of life.  We did pass Hope Cemetery on the way out of town.  (There's a snarky joke there if I were inclined to work at it.)

Arrived at Cloudcroft NM late in the afternoon.  Temps at the campground are 20 degrees cooler than Carlsbad with an elevation of @ 9,000 ft.  Our unopened bag of corn chips looks like 3-day old road-kill and ready to explode.  CG is nice and as has been the case, almost empty.

As a final comment for the day, VD is constantly taking pictures of me working on my computer as some sort of tech-weenie.  Hidden behind the cooler is VD's tablet.  I however will resist the temptation to strike back.

Tomorrow of to hike the Bluff Spring Trail down south of Cloudcroft.  "See" you all later.

Best Wishes,

BD & VD

  1. The roaming charges are totally worth it for views like that.
