27-30 June - Transition Time

With Scot and Jess headed home we spend a couple of additional days on the coast just taking in some sights, food, and just being lazy:

.

Notice the similarity?

An if you sit too long in one place.....

Stopped at the Evergreen Aero Space Museum to see the "Spruce Goose"
Then on to Salem Oregon for the retirement recon trip.  Interesting town.  Basically a mini-Portland.  Well situated for access to the coast, the mountains, and all points south.  Lots of funky restaurants, (and people).
Would be a significant social/political shift for me, but maybe I need that?

Val can give you hare perspective.

So no off to Portland for a few days with Jess and Scot in Portland and the 4th of July.

Good night from Salem Oregon, Capital of the Peoples Republic.

23-26 June - Sea To Shining Sea

We made it to the Pacific Ocean on southern coast of Oregon where Scott met us for a 3-day weekend.  Some nice hikes, GREAT gumbo (courtesy of our honorary Cajun) and some "lively" socio-political conversation with our favorite residents of the Peoples Republic of Oregon.

That was Jessica, not me!

The crowds were ridiculous!

You DO know they have tides here, RIGHT?

STILL no room in the Funmobile.

Thats a LOT of  bird $%#$!!.

A sea enema (or whatever).

NOPE - It wasn't me....

At the end of the 3-day visit, Scott and Jess head back to their responsible lives and Val and I become empty-nesters, resuming our normal schedule of 10 am start times.

Tomorrow we head up the coast for another couple of days and then over to Salem Oregon to recon a potential retirement home.

Good night from the Oregon Coast

20-22 June - No More Red Dirt - Just Green Trees

Made a 2-day death march across northern Nevada and SE Oregon to the north California Redwoods.  OK, I'm a bit weird and love that desolate Nevada country but I won't torture you with more pictures of eroded dirt.  Although we did camp overnight at the Royal Peacock Opal Mine somewhere in north central Nevada.

Note - Gas up in Winnemucca - Next Gas Lakeview  -  211 miles
(D = Opal Mine)

Note 2 - we were AGAIN somewhat near Burning Man site, but not scheduled until end of August. The fates are calling.

But now cooler temps and greener pastures abound.

"Its THIS way."  "No its NOT."

HONEY - I shrink the kids. (Oh - Sorry, it was you.)

I know we left it here somewhere...
A proctoscope of a tree.

Crazy Oregonians!

Sorry - No more room in the Funmobile.

Good night from hte California Redwoods.

17-19 June - Nine Mile Canyon

After and “uneventful” trip back up-lake to Bullfrog, (one of our two engines crapped out which cut our speed in half, but doubled our fuel economy), we unloaded the houseboat and lugged the belongings of 7 tired sailors a couple of hundred yards back up the ramp to the Funmobile and the Loffredi van.  As it turns out, 50 mph gusts not only blow houseboats around, but they also can move an enormous amount of red dust, most of which miraculously ended up coating every visible (and many invisible) surface INSIDE the Funmobile.  (Not much fun to be had there.)

We finally split up with the Loffredis heading to Zion, Moab and then home, and the Davidsons (including Jess) heading back to Portland with a stop at 9-mile canyon, one of our favorite petroglyph sites.
First night (Saturday) we boondock in Temple Canyon, in the desert about 60 miles north of Lake Powell.

An evening walk yielded:

And a pretty darn awesome desert sunset.

Sunday and Monday we explored 9-mile Canyon, one of the most dense concentrations of rock art in the country.

At least this year the cows were just blocking the road and not sticking their noses in the Funmobile window at 5 in the morning.

Good Night from 9-Mile Canyon.
