Saturday 10 June - Day One Lake Powell

SATURDAY

Arrived at Lake Powell last night after driving down from Salt Lake City after picking up Jess at the airport.  Rest of the tribe is in Colorado visiting to Mesa Verde and will meet up with them later tonight.
To fill the day, we (Val, Jess and I) picked up a 19 foot standard power boat to explore the northern part of the lake.

Its a little choppy, but not too bad.  Not going too far, just a conditioning cruise for the week to follow.

THEN the fun began. Crossing from one side of the lake the other, an insistent beeping sound.  Putter around to see what’s up, Maybe it’s like a computer and just needs a re-boot.  Key off - engine off – key on – restart – BLUE SCREEN OF DEATH ….  NOTHING.

Hmmmmm… we’re in the middle of the lake, about 15 mph wind and no engine.  Call marina on the radio. Nothing.  Call marina on the cell phone and get a promise of “we’ll have someone there in a little while” which turns out to be about 45 minutes and 10 minutes from being blown up on the rocks.
IMG_0234Says the mechanic, “Needs a new battery I think. I’ll put one in and you should head back to the marina.”  (Consistent with yesterday’s Walmart experience.)  OK by me because the wind has picked up a bit and this little put-put ain’t the Kon Tiki.

Staying at the lodge tonight so check in for out two rooms with 2 double beds each to find that they arbitrarily changed the reservation to 2 rooms with one king bed each, which after threatening to have our grand children sleep in the lobby with the night manager, they ponied up a third king room for free.

View from the room.

Everybody shows up and we have a grand reunion before turning in.

Good night from Bullfrog Utah, (about 3 hrs from the nearest grocery store of any use).
