After and “uneventful” trip back up-lake to Bullfrog, (one of our two engines crapped out which cut our speed in half, but doubled our fuel economy), we unloaded the houseboat and lugged the belongings of 7 tired sailors a couple of hundred yards back up the ramp to the Funmobile and the Loffredi van. As it turns out, 50 mph gusts not only blow houseboats around, but they also can move an enormous amount of red dust, most of which miraculously ended up coating every visible (and many invisible) surface INSIDE the Funmobile. (Not much fun to be had there.)
We finally split up with the Loffredis heading to Zion, Moab and then home, and the Davidsons (including Jess) heading back to Portland with a stop at 9-mile canyon, one of our favorite petroglyph sites.
First night (Saturday) we boondock in Temple Canyon, in the desert about 60 miles north of Lake Powell.
An evening walk yielded:
A picturesque camping spot,
Some nice pictographs high up on the wall,
,
Some cool rocks,
A 40’s vintage something-or-other,
Which met an all too common red-neck desert demise,
And a pretty darn awesome desert sunset.
Sunday and Monday we explored 9-mile Canyon, one of the most dense concentrations of rock art in the country.
At least this year the cows were just blocking the road and not sticking their noses in the Funmobile window at 5 in the morning.
Good Night from 9-Mile Canyon.
Brad and Val (and Jessica)
I didn't know the funmobile could ford waterways... maybe we should have simply driven it across Lake Powell?
