Day one of our trip to Points West starting with Illinois (obviously) which only took 10 hours, and then Iowa which took another 20, (or so it seemed). Only a couple of stops, the first near the Amana Colonies where I paid $0.40 a gallon more for gas than anyplace else I saw (so much for plain and simple life) , and the second at a rest stop named after Herbert Hoover (of vacuum cleaner fame).
FAKE News - Actually Herb was actually our President once, but is probably happy to be dead rather than the President of our currently dysfunctional nation. (Not pointing fingers mind you.) There are those that say he sucked worse than his namesake.
Presiding over the Great Financial Depression was probably a lot more fun than our current Great Emotional Depression. (Again, keeping finger pointed straight to the ground.)
On a lighter note, last night was 8th grade graduation for our beloved J Loffredi. Obviously those eyebrow genes are not of our Scotch/Irish/Polish origin.
Knowing we'd be out celebrating late, instead of packing, I scheduled a late 11 am start and short run to western Iowa instead of the normal eastern Nebraska. However, I was unceremoniously "nudged" awake at 5 am and on the road as usual at 9 am sharp. (Shock)
So good night from Prairie Rose State Park, Harlan Iowa. (Still looking for a rose amid the corn stubble.)
