The Valley of the Goats

Tues 12 May 2015

I'm sitting here tonight not looking out at enormous red monoliths which inspire thoughts of tranquility and timelessness, but instead, a young girl chasing a 3-legged goat around a pasture that sits right behind our commercial campsite  in Monticello UT.  The goat is not at all interested in going back to wherever she intends it to be.  The only thing less interested was the border collie that was just sitting there, apparently bemused with the whole process.

Today was a travel and restock day with a couple of stops at petroglyph sites along the way.  These weren't "wild" sites, but were interesting never-the-less.  In the case of large well-known panels like these, there are typically many "eras" of additions to the site, anywhere from a several thousand years ago to "Jack Loves Mary".  I post the pics just for general interest.

Is this one big enough?

The road out of Valley of the Gods

Sand Island Petroglyphs - Bluff UT
(Unusual squiggles.)

Sand Island Man on Horse
(Which would date it to post-conquistador 1500's)

Jess - Another lizard.  Should I include a daily lizard shot?

Utah Speed Bump
"Newspaper Rock" - Near Monticello UT

Sunday Edition - with comics.

Foot fetish?

If the weather holds up, tomorrow will be a 30 mile stretch of dirt road along Montezuma Creek that is peppered with numerous rock art and ruins sites.  Fingers crossed.

Good night from Mountain view RV Park, Monticello UT.

PS - She finally gave up "herding" the goat and dragged it off with a noose around its neck, (the collie trailing along behind).
